Howdy, and welcome in. I’m Hattie Mae, and I put together the guides here at Country Crochet.
I’ll be straight with you from the start: I’m no crochet expert. I crochet a little, and I’m still learning, same as a lot of you. I started this site because I kept hunting for the same plain answers over and over. What size hook goes with this yarn? Is a 5.5 mm the same as an I-9? What does “sc2tog” mean? The answers were out there, but they were scattered across forums, pattern notes and product pages.
So Country Crochet is where I gather those answers in one place, written plainly, for beginners and hobbyists who just want to get back to their project.
What you’ll find here
- Hook sizes and conversions: millimeters, US letters and UK numbers, and which hook suits which yarn.
- Terms and techniques: what the abbreviations mean, how to join yarn, how to read a pattern.
- Tools and supplies: hooks, markers and the other bits and bobs, with notes on who each one suits.
How I make these guides
I want you to know exactly how the sausage gets made here:
- I choose every topic, based on the questions crocheters actually ask.
- Each guide is researched and drafted with the help of AI writing tools.
- I then read it over, check the facts and numbers against published sources such as yarn standards and manufacturers’ size charts, and edit it before it goes up.
Even with that care, mistakes can slip through. If you spot one, please tell me and I’ll put it right.
How I pick products
Some guides point you to hooks or supplies on Amazon. I haven’t personally tested every product I mention. My recommendations are based on manufacturers’ published specs and on what crocheters widely report about how a product holds up. I try to say plainly who a product suits and where it falls short.
When you buy through those links, Country Crochet may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. That never decides what I recommend. You can read the details in my affiliate disclosure.
