This crochet car seat cover works two ways. Snap it over the carrier handle as a canopy, or lay it flat as a stroller blanket once your baby is out of the seat. Before you use any cover like this, keep it away from the front of the seat where it could block airflow, and only put it in place after your baby is buckled in correctly. I designed this piece at 32 inches square, small enough to stay out of the way of the buckle straps.
Materials
- 3 skeins worsted weight (#4) cotton-blend yarn, about 600 yards total
- 5.5mm (I-9) hook
- 2 sew-on snaps or 2 buttons plus button loops, for strap attachment

My finished size fits most infant carrier models, but every seat is shaped differently. Add chains in multiples of 4 for extra width, or extra rows for extra length, before you attach the snaps.
Pattern instructions
Main body
Chain 97. Row 1: hdc in third chain from hook and each chain across (95 hdc). Row 2 to 60: ch 2, turn, hdc in each stitch across. This gives a dense, warm fabric that will not sag when clipped to the carrier handle. I like to check my row count against the carrier handle height every 10 rows so I do not overshoot the length.
Once you hit 60 rows, or your target length, fasten off and weave in the starting tail before you move to the border.
Border and edging
Join yarn in any corner. Single crochet evenly around all four sides, working 3 sc in each corner to keep it from puckering. Join with a slip stitch and fasten off.
Strap-button placement
Fold the top edge of the cover over the carrier handle to test placement before you attach anything permanently. Sew one snap or button loop about 4 inches in from each side of the top edge, positioned so the strap sits above the buckle straps, never over them.
My rule for adjusting fit: add a chain multiple of 4 for width, or work extra rows before the border for length. This keeps the stitch pattern intact no matter what size seat you own.
Finishing
Attach the buttons or snaps to the carrier straps only after doing a fit check on the actual seat, not just a photo of it. Drape the cover in place with your baby buckled in first, confirm nothing blocks the vents near the baby’s face, then snap the cover down. If it is loose at the sides, a 3rd snap in the middle of the top edge keeps it from sliding.
