Can Koozie Crochet Pattern

A can koozie crochet pattern makes a stretchy insulating sleeve sized for a standard 12-ounce can, using a ribbed stitch for the stretch needed to slip on and off easily. These are a fun summer make for barbecues. This guide covers materials and the pattern.

Materials and Pattern

  • About 35 yards worsted weight yarn
  • A 4.0mm hook, slightly smaller than typical for a snugger stretch fit
  1. Chain 2, work 8 hdc into the second chain from the hook, closing the ring.
  2. Work 3 rounds of straight hdc with no increases to form the base.
  3. Switch to front post and back post hdc alternating for the remaining 8 rounds to create the ribbed, stretchy body.
  4. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Frequently asked questions

Why use ribbing for a koozie instead of plain stitches?

Ribbing gives the fabric stretch, letting a single koozie fit both standard cans and slightly larger bottles without a separate pattern for each size.

Want a bottle-sized version too?

A wine bottle holder uses the same ribbed technique at a larger scale.
